Race Information
Portage Lakes Fireworks RUN TO THE BEACH Half Marathon, 5k and Relays is April 21, 2012 at 9 a.m. Course is run around Portage Lakes State Park and in the Cities of Green and New Franklin. It winds around many of the Portage Lakes and Nimisila Reservoir, with a large portion of the course waterfront. And it ends on the beach.
This is an Ohio Challenge Series event. Race is run primarily on roads with some flat beautiful waterfront and ends on the beach at Portage Lakes State Park. Awards for top five overall male and female half marathoners and 5k runners and top three overall relay teams in coed, male and female categories. There are also masters and grand masters overall awards. Age category awards are for the top three in the following age groups for half marathon and 5k: 11 & under, 12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over. Preregistrants receive men's or women's technical t-shirts. Commenorative medals will be provided to all finishing half marathoners and relayers. Great big goodie bag. Fireworks DisplayThe 2012 Fireworks display will be on July 1st at 10 PM . Rain date for the fireworks will be July 3rd. Donations can be sent to: P.O. Box 26923, Akron, Ohio 44319. You can use your Mastercard, or Visa by going to www.Portagelakes.com. Stop by PNC Bank in Portage Lakes on Manchester Rd., or the National City Bank in Green at Rt. 619 and Arlington Rd.. Use PayPal: plfa3910@yahoo.com. Donations can also be dropped off at George Ayers Insurance, Dano’s Lakeside Pub, Dusty’s Landing, Dietz’s Restaurant or Cole Industries. Merchandise such as Hats and etc. will be available for sale at both the National City Banks and on the website and will benefit the fireworks. Thank you to everyone who made the first Run to the Beach 5K Run/Walk a great success for the Portage Lakes Fireworks.
